Walnuts have a rich history dating back thousands of years.
Walnuts have been cultivated for thousands of years, dating back to 7000 B.C. The Romans called them Juglans regia, or “Jupiter’s royal acorn.” Originating in ancient Persia, walnuts were once reserved for royalty and are often referred to as “Persian Walnuts.” They were traded along the Silk Road, spreading their popularity
Despite their name, “English Walnuts” were not commercially grown in England but were transported globally by English merchant marines.
